A Murrells Inlet man was arrested Monday after police said he stole a woman’s purse causing her to fall in a Myrtle Beach Walmart parking lot.
According to a Myrtle Beach police report, Michael Lawrence Delvecchio, 34, approached a woman in the Walmart parking lot on Seaboard Street just before 10 a.m. Saturday and asked her if she knew where another Walmart was in the area. As she got closer to Delvecchio’s car, he grabbed the woman’s purse hanging from her shoulder, causing her to fall to the ground, the report said. The victim had minor scrapes on her hands and knees from the fall.
Police later found the woman's purse in a trash can at a nearby gas station bathroom. Cash in the amount of $1,400 was missing from the purse.
Delvecchio is charged with assault and battery and purse snatching.
