The City of Georgetown will introduce “Movies in the Park,” a three series summer movie event.
The movies will be played by a 4500 lumens projector system and shown on a 16 x 9 inflatable screen.
The idea of Movies in the Park is a growing trend throughout the area as other municipalities and venues are sponsoring these events.
With the popularity of showing movies at night outdoors, the City of Georgetown has decided to join in on the fun and the promotion of a family friendly event.
Georgetown Mayor Jack Scoville said he is excited about the Movies in the Park and that the City is pleased to be sponsoring the movie showings. He hopes to have much participation.
The series of Movies in the Park will be held on the last Friday of the summer months at Rainey Park.
Rainey Park is located on Front Street next to the Kaminski House, at the intersection of King and Front streets.
The first movie premiering is the classic film “ET,” which will be shown this Friday, June 29, at sunset.
The following dates and movies for the summer are July 27, “Puss in Boots,” and August 31, the movie, “Up.”
The chosen movies being shown are family friendly and entertaining for all ages.
All movies are rated PG by the Motion Picture Association. For the movie showings, all people are encouraged to arrive around 8:30 with their blankets or chairs to get settled for the start of the movie. Admission is free and refreshments will be sold. In case of rain or other inclement weather the show will need to be canceled and a later showing will be determined.
