One person died Friday as a result of an on-the-job accident in Pawleys Island.

Rose Hill community resident Kenneth Pittman, 45, was at work at Starwood Landscaping on Maintenance Drive in Pawleys Island when the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson said Pittman was crushed by a backhoe as he was loading equipment to get ready for a job.

Johnson said he was loading a commercial leaf blower onto the backhoe when he accidentally hit the lever that moved the arm of the machine.

It swung around and pinned him between the arm and the tractor, Johnson said.

He said Pittman has worked for the company for several years.

Mr.Pittman was a very fine guy to work with.I had the privilage of working with him a few years ago @ Eagle Electric Mfg.. I pray God's strength remain with his family. Minister Larry Bland
