Local winners traveled to Sumter on Saturday, Nov. 7. They were accompanied by local Elk Dave Clark of Georgetown to compete with other 6-13 year old boys and girls.

There were competitors from several other communities throughout the state, represented by more than 50 young soccer players.

The Sumter Elks Lodge hosted the soccer competition, banquet and awards ceremonies.

The South Carolina Benevolent Protective Order of Elks has sponsored local and state competition for this fun soccer skills event for the past 15 years. Georgetown County Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Elks of Murrells Inlet Lodge #2797 for the past 5 years.

There have been more than 200 local kids from around Georgetown County during local 5 Goal and Grid Goal competition. The program tests their ball control skills while shooting at different size targets for the 9 and under and a single regulation goal with a point grid for the 10 -13 year olds.

Winners of local competition are eligible to compete in the state event with a higher level of competitors.

Georgetown County has sent an average of 7 participants each year and has always brought home multiple trophies.

All six boys and girls from Andrews and Georgetown returned home with awards.
