Lady Bears beat Trojans

Carvers Bay's girls basketball team beat Green Sea-Floyds 48-17 last week.

"Our girls have been working hard to get a win like this," Bears' coach Joe Epps said. "It was senior night and we got good play out of our seniors."

Carvers Bay held Green Sea-Floyds scoreless in the first quarter and lead 11-4 at the half. The Trojans played better in the second half, but the Bears extended their lead to 35-10 at the end of the third and held on for the 31-point victory.

"There were still a few mistakes, but we're getting better with it," Epps said. "We're showing a lot of promise for the future going into next year."

Desaree Green led Carvers Bay with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Quantashia Robinson had 13 points, and Jasmine Eaddy had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Around the county

Andrews lost 59-40 to Lake City last week.

The Panthers dominated the first quarter and led 21-4 going into the second. The Yellow Jackets rallied to cut the lead to 32-17 at the half. Lake City came out strong in the third quarter and extended the lead to 46-24. Andrews had its best quarter of the night in the fourth, outscoring Lake City 16-13, but couldn't catch the Panthers in the end.

Neosha Green had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead Andrews. Quanisha Brown had seven points, Nyesha Flimore had six, and Shina Brown and Phylicia grant had four each.

Andrews (7-12) hits the road on Tuesday for the first round of the playoffs.

Georgetown (9-8) was eliminated from playoff contention with a 44-40 loss to Myrtle Beach last week.

After a 9-9 first quarter, Georgetown took a 21-20 lead into the half and extended it to 34-30 at the end of the third quarter. But the Seahawks held the Bulldogs to just six points in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Justis Evans led Georgetown with 13 points. Raven Smith and Taziya Moody had seven points each and Moet Spann added four.
