With less than 80 days left before what she describes as "perhaps the most important election in the last 30 years," Republican State House candidate Jill Kelso (District 108) has launched a multimedia campaign eliciting the ideas and concerns of area residents.
Kelso's "Listening Campaign," launched last week with a voter survey mailed to about 5,000 households in Georgetown and Charleston counties and radio commercials on talk radio WRNN and WEZV/EZ-105.9, invites area residents to speak out about the issues.
"Our mail survey, which is also available online at my Web site (www.SCHouse108.com), asks residents to rank the importance of a dozen issues from roads, education and wasteful spending to social concerns such as defining marriage as being between a man and a woman," Kelso said.
"I've also included a separate question about energy independence, an issue that is on the minds of a majority of the people I've called over the past month or two."
In the initial radio commercial, Kelso recalls that her grandfather always emphasized the importance of listening and invites residents to call or e-mail her to express their own concerns, desires, and ideas to improve their quality of life.
"During Phase II of the radio campaign, we'll actually air the voices of area voters and publish their ideas on my Web site," Kelso added.
"The entire concept is to involve our citizens in representative government. It's one of my primary commitments to voters in November and so I decided to make it a key element of my campaign, too."

Were it not for the blogger's name, "Vida supporter," one would wonder what article he or she read to write nonsense like "there's no truth behind wasteful spending." That name gives it away - ONLY a Vida fanatic wearing a blindfold would make such an absurd assertion. Ms. Miller voted to overturn all but 4 of the Governor's vetoes on wasteful spending (bean museums, festivals, etc.) - ranking her at the BOTTOM in waste! And hey, even if you DO like government to waste your tax dollars, at least you could elect someone to spend it on pork at home. Alas, Vida not only wastes YOUR money ... she gives it to other representatives to spend in THEIR home district! Posted by Watchful Eyes on 9/8/2008

Seems to me that since the state house and the Governors office are, and will be for years to come, run by Republicans. Why would one want to send a liberal Democrat to Columbia? They can't get anything done and spend their time obstructing and whinning. Lets send somebody that can get something accomplished. Posted by an independent on 9/8/2008

This phrase of "wasteful spending" is a good GOP tag line - but there's no truth behind it. It's more symbolic to say this because it catches people's ears. But the truth of the matter is the GOP has been wasting taxpayer dollars on a war and a country that has a surplus of its own - while this state feels the trickle-down effect of less tax dollars to support the states and their budgets. Vida's record stands for itself and the money she's worked for has come to South Carolina - and Georgetown specifically. The GOP's borrow and spend policy will not work any longer.
