Larry Jamie Lewis, 24, of Hemingway, Ray-Mateo Edwards, 22, and Darrel Antoine Nesmith, 25, both of Kingstree, were sentenced in federal court for conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine, according to Acting United States Attorney Kevin F. McDonald.
United States District Judge Terry L. Wooten sentenced Lewis to 10 years, Edwards to seven years, four months, and Nesmith to five years in federal prison without the possibility of parole.
All three defendants were part of a large drug ring responsible for the distribution of kilogram quantities of crack and cocaine in the Williamsburg County area since 2004.
On numerous occasions during the summer of 2005, each of these defendants sold crack to a confidential informant.
In November 2005, investigators of the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop Nesmith for driving while his license was suspended.
Nesmith refused to stop and a chase ensued, during which Nesmith threw over 16 grams of crack from the car.
The case was investigated by SLED, the Williamsburg County Sheriff's Office, the Florence County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI, and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham of the Florence office.
