Georgetown church holds health fair for Hispanics; free health screens and information for attendees

A Hispanic Health Fair at the Georgetown Presbyterian Church was a success with about 200 participating.
It was hosted by the  Rape Crisis Intervention this week  for the Hispanic community.
Mercy Hospice, Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center, the Georgetown Fire Department and The Georgetown Sheriff Department were there handing out fire hats to the children and literature on safety for the adults.
There were free health screenings and a nurse and a doctor were on hand to answer questions regarding health.
Bringing the Hispanic OutReach Ministry together with Rape Crisis bridged the gap and brought the community together said Shanna Scott the public relations coordinator of Rape Crisis.
“We want to bring the community together to help the family and victims of domestic assault stay safe,” Scott said.
We were trying to have a health fair last year but the resources were not available.
So the Rape Crisis Intervention decided to sponsor the event said Yorky Burnas, the Hispanic outreach teaching coordinator.
Hispanics usually do not have access to this information and we will try to have this fair yearly.
Burnas said the turnout was good, but more people would had turned out for the fair if they weren’t taking part in the Rossario until December 12th.
The Hispanic people keep a low profile and they are very family centered, Burnas said.
The Hispanic Outreach Ministry supports kids academically and our mission is to link people to the different agencies that can help.
DJ Greg Sanchez played several popular Latin songs and the children enjoyed jumping in the jumpy castle.
They also had fun having their face painted and enjoyed eating hot-dogs, chips, and juice.
Paster Steve Wilkins of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church walked around greeting the guess and taking pictures.
“We were delighted to provide the space for the fair. It’s a wonderful opportunity,” said Paster Wilkins . “I am grateful for them and was glad that Yorky Burnas got the word out to the Hispanic community which made it a success.”

I hope all those involved serving the IA's, (and yes, you all know they are,) lose their jobs to them like all the carpenters and construction workers did. No doubt here they will work for 1/4 of what your employers pay you.

Illegals aren't eligible for foodstamps and other types of welfare. Legal immigrats that have a green card are considered "residents" they are not citizens...and the majority of legal residents DO NOT meet qualifications for Medicaid and other forms of welfare, even though they pay taxes. So no one has "spilled the beans." Thanks for your comment though.

"These people aren't eligible for food stamps, Medicaid and all the other types of welfare that are offered." Um, the person who said this just spilled the beans.

Yes, the church event was for Hispanics. It was not for illegals. Broad brushing Hispanics as illegals is racist. You say facts are not racist But there is NO proof whatsoever that there were any of many illegals at the church event. So, I stand by my claim those of you making the words Hispanic and illegals synonyms are racists.

Was the Kensington fair for one ethnic group? Facts are not racist. The law is the law.

You people are so racist. saying all Hispanics are illegals is loke saying all black people are (fill in the blank) or all white people are (fill in the blank). This fair may have attracted some illegals but the Halloween Fair they had at Kensington School may have attracted some pedephiles. Does that mean the Kensingtn fair should not have been held? If your answer is yes then lets close all the parks and water slides cause they attract them too.

"Are they supposed to sit back and let these people/children get sick/be unhealthy?" No. They become legal citizens, pay taxes and take care of themselves like legalized Americans do.

Why should we take care of them? They're not here legally. They don't even care for their children by becoming legal in the first place. This makes me sick to see that other people here legally in our community get a back seat to these people.

"These people aren't eligible for food stamps, Medicaid and all the other types of welfare that are offered." I wonder why? No need to answer. I already know.

It makes me sick for someone to justify providing these illegals any type of benefits. We don't owe these criminals anything. They are here in violation of the law. For our tax dollars to be used is also criminal. Why would we have someone from the Fire Department and the Sheriff's department at this event? The employers who hire these people should have to pay for their benefits. Does this mean that the Paster Steve Wilkins of the Georgetown Presbyterian Church walking around greeting the guess (Illegals) and taking pictures is indicating this is now a safe haven for these illegals. God Help us all. I guess its okay to break the law in the name of the lord.

I can't believe someone has the nerve to say that what these people did was not christian-like. These people aren't eligible for food stamps, Medicaid and all the other types of welfare that are offered. Are they supposed to sit back and let these people/children get sick/be unhealthy? Because that would effect everyone. Big thanks to Georgetown Presbyterian Church, Mercy Hospice, Coastal Samaritan Counseling Center, the Georgetown Fire Department and The Georgetown Sheriff Department, DJ Greg Sanchez, Hispanic OutReach Ministry and Rape Crisis Intervention. This event shows that we do care about ALL the people in our community, no matter where/what they came from!

That's all and well, but there other people in the city that need charity. Gearing towards one ethnicity and leaving out others isn't Christian-like.
