Georgetown -- A free throw by Marquise Besselieu in overtime gave Georgetown's boys basketball team a 37-36 win over North Myrtle Beach last week.

"You know I want to win an ugly game," Bulldogs' coach Alvin Walker said. "Our defense had to keep us in the game."

North Myrtle Beach started the game with the hot hand, sinking a trio of three-pointers in the opening minutes. But the Chiefs went cold and Georgetown took a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Neither team hit a lot of shots in the second quarter, but the Chiefs sank a three-pointer with 30 seconds left to break a 17-17 tie. Georgetown missed a three-pointer with 5 seconds left that would have tied the score again, but A.J. Walker grabbed the rebound and laid the ball in at the buzzer to cut North Myrtle Beach's lead to 20-19 at the half.

Georgetown missed 11 shots and North Myrtle Beach missed six shots in the third quarter, and the score was tied 26-26 going into the fourth.

Leading 31-28 as time was winding down, North Myrtle Beach missed a dunk that might have secured the victory.

Georgetown hit a shot to cut the lead to 31-30, and on the Bulldogs' next possession, Charlie McGirt grabbed a rebound, hit the shot to give Georgetown the 32-31 lead, and sank a foul shot to extend it to 33-31 with 17 seconds left.

North Myrtle Beach took the inbounds pass and hit a shot at the buzzer to tie the game at 33-33 and send it to overtime.

After a Georgetown basket and foul gave the Bulldogs the 36-33 lead, North Myrtle Beach hit a three-pointer to tie the game again.

Georgetown missed a shot on its next possession and a North Myrtle Beach missed shot was rebounded by Bessellieu, who hit the game-winner with 4.5 seconds left in overtime.

The Chiefs had an opportunity to tie the game again, but missed a shot from beyond the three-point line.

"They were living and dying by their threes," coach Walker said. "Our matchup zone was very effective. It made them run a lot of time off the clock."

Tevin Johnson had 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Georgetown. Justin Wright had seven points, Anthony Blair had six points and nine rebounds, A.J. Walker had six points, Aiswan Nelson had six rebounds, and Besselleiu had three points and five rebounds.
