New Year’s resolutions are all well and good for many people, but they’re not for everyone. It’s really easy to say that we will go on a diet, exercise and be more efficient. And we hope that most of us can do those things.
But even if we don’t, it’s still a good idea to see where we’ve been before we set out on a new journey.
Albert Einstein is often credited with this saying:
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
If you read through this issue of the Georgetown Times you’ll get a good sense of the significant local events of the past year.
We knew we couldn’t cover everything in just a few pages, but throughout the paper we’ve highlighted about 20 top news and sports stories.
All year long, we cover many other local events and our columnists share their words of wisdom that we hope are thought-provoking and entertaining.
For those who see the little things, you may note on Page 4 that we are now on Volume 214 of our little paper on the coast. The Georgetown Gazette first began covering our town in 1798. We are the oldest newspaper in South Carolina.
We’re proud of our heritage and look forward to continuing in our role as the newspaper of record for Georgetown County.
Whether or not you decide to come up with a list of resolutions, we present here a look at the past with a hope that we can learn from it and do a better job in our towns and our county in 2012.
Happy New Year!
