Gamble died after being shot by two members of the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office who responded to his neighborhood after Gamble allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Harold James Smith.
Smith survived the stabbing but his condition was unavailable Tuesday.
When Sgt. Dustin Morris and Deputy James Lee-Wood arrived on the scene, Gamble reportedly started walking towards them "at a fast pace" holding a knife and stick. He ignored repeated warnings to drop the weapons, according to the officers. Four shots were fired and Gamble died as a result of gunshot wounds to the chest.
Katherine Richardson of SLED said Tuesday the investigation is "ongoing" and no further comments can be made. Once the SLED agents complete the inquest, a report will be written and turned over to Hembree to determine if the actions taken by the officers were justified.
Morris and Lee-Wood are both on paid administrative leave while the investigation takes place.
