Dancers Turn Back The Clock at Pawleys Island

Written by Clayton Stairs

Despite a downpour at the beginning of the evening, hundreds of people of all ages turned out to celebrate the 11th Annual Pawleys Pavilion Reunion Saturday. Hosted on Pawleys Island by the South Carolina Environmental Law Project and the Pawleys Island Litchfield Business Association, this event featured live music by The Catalinas and Lowcountry cuisine by Drunken Jacks and Inlet Affairs, both of Murrells Inlet.

Kamie Buice, left, and Carson McCall partner up for the first dance of the night. They were two of the many teenagers who attended the event.

1662, 1663
Ed Huggins and Mary Yarborough, both of Pawleys Island, seem to know each other’s next move on the dance floor. They say the reunion reminds them of the “good old days” when they used to go to the Pawleys Pavilion in the 1960s.

1664
Doug and Hilda Simon of Pawleys Island seem to be enjoying themselves on the dance floor. This was their fourth time attending the reunion on Pawleys.

1671, 1673, 1674
K.C. Glasser, left, and Beckie Sullivan, both of Pawleys Island, tear up the dance floor. They seemed to really be feeling the music.

1680, 1683, 1686
Smith Anderson and Julie Crosby, both from North Carolina, warm up and fall into step with one another as they shag the night away.

1693, 1694, 1699
Ronnie and Melanie Tanner of Beaufort dance with their granddaughter, Anna Altman, 3. The Tanners grew up in Georgetown and attended many dance events at the Pawleys Pavilion. They have also attended all 11 of the reunions.
