Man Accused Of Impersonating Deputy During Car Repossession

A Georgetown man is facing possible impersonation charges after claiming he was a Georgetown County deputy while he and a partner were attempting to repossess a car Dec. 12.

The incident happened on Hilliard Street in the Graves Station area. A man said he was inside his home when he heard someone start his car. He walked out and saw a man who had locked himself inside the car, saying he was there to repossess it.

The repossessor then put the car in reverse and backed into a washing machine that was in the yard. The vehicle then got stuck and the Hilliard Street man then punched out the driver’s side window in an attempt to pull the driver from the car.

It was at that time the suspect jumped out of some bushes and yelled, “Freeze!

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. I will Taze you if you move.”

The victim turned around and realized he knew the suspect and said, “You are not the police.” The suspect did have a Taser pointing at the victim, although he never attempted to use it despite his threats.

The man in the car got out and the car’s owner jumped in and sped away with the suspect and his partner giving chase, but the owner was able to get away. So far, no charges have been filed, as the investigation continues.

• Two dogs on the loose on Brick Chimney Road reportedly killed seven chickens Dec. 8, according to a report.

Deputies were sent to the 1500 block of Brick Chimney Road and met with a man who said sometime that morning the pit bulls — he thinks they belong to a neighbor — knocked over some pens in his yard and got to his birds. He said the dogs killed two hens, four roosters and one show chicken.

The dogs were not done. They then ran to another house and killed more chickens. The owner of those chickens freed his dogs to chase the chicken-killers away.

• A Waccamaw High School student found he was the victim of vandalism when he got to his car after school Dec. 12. Someone had “keyed” the car by placing a long scratch on the driver’s side as well as a profane word on the trunk.

The victim said he has been having problems with another student because of a fishing rod that has not been returned. The investigation continues.

• A 15-year-old Georgetown girl is accused of using scissors to threaten her father Dec. 12. The victim said he and the teen got into an argument after he came home and smelled cigarette smoke in the house. When he asked her about it, the girl grabbed a pair of scissors and said, “I will give you something to send me away for.”

When asked for her side of the story, the teen said she had the scissors because she was going to make something for her dad for Christmas. The deputy said he did not buy that version because a deputy had been at that same house the previous day and the teen said she hated her dad and wanted him to go away.

The girl said the Christmas present she had planned to make “was not going to be nice.”
The girl was charged with simple assault and was held at the jail for six hours and was returned to her parents.

• A fight that started inside a classroom of Waccamaw High School continued when the three students involved got on a bus after school Dec. 12. After the three traded words and punches, they were removed from the bus. They were charged with disturbing a school.

• An infant and her two older siblings have been placed in emergency protective custody after they were abandoned by their mother Dec. 10. The woman drove to the Maryville home of a man she has dated on and off for several years and while she and the three children were there, she said she had to go to the store. She left the kids with the man and never returned.

The man said one of the children — not the infant — was his. He called his sister to help and DSS was notified. During a search of the town, the woman’s car was found at a Highmarket Street gas station but she was not there.

It’s unknown if the woman has returned, but she is not allowed to be around the children without supervision.

The former boyfriend says she has a drug problem and has been in and out of counseling.

• The owner of a house on Player Street in Georgetown told deputies he thinks a man who had been living there is responsible for the theft of more than $2,400’ worth of items, including a refrigerator, dishwasher and dryer. There was no apparent forced entry to the house, so it’s believed the thief had a key. The owner said the man he believes is responsible moved out in early December.

• A 72-year-old man from Apple Street in Andrews was charged with two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill after shooting at a car with two people inside Dec. 11. The man and the driver of the car got into an argument and after the victim left, the suspect fired shots at the vehicle. No one was injured. Deputies received a call about the incident from a female neighbor, who said when she heard the gunfire she went outside to see what was going on and the suspect pointed the gun at her. She told deputies, “I ran as fast as I could and didn’t look back.”

Deputies knew the man was armed, so they approached his house with guns drawn, and he surrendered without further incident.

• A Browns Ferry woman is accused of being a shoe thief by a friend of hers in Pawleys Island. The man said he bought a pair of work shoes for his wife for Christmas and on Dec. 11, the suspect was at their house. When she left, she took the shoes with her. The man said he asked her to return the shoes but she refused.
He was advised to see a judge about signing a warrant.
