Police Blotter (March 27th, 2008)

Published on 3/27/2008

A Pawleys Island man who reportedly said he had been shot by a stranger Tuesday night was arrested after investigators determined the story was made up.

Coleman Tudor, 21, of 116 Newman Loop, was treated for gunshot wounds on his shoulder.

While he was being questioned, Tudor reportedly said he was shot near Miyabi's Restaurant in Murrells Inlet by a man in dark clothing. He said after he was shot he walked to Waccamaw Community Hospital and left his car at Miyabi's.

During the investigation, deputies found Tudor's car was not at Miyabi's but in the hospital parking lot. Investigators talked to two witnesses who said they saw Tudor get out of his car and open his trunk. They then reported hearing a loud "pop." It was then that Tudor walked over to a hospital security guard, the witnesses reportedly said.

Deputies asked Tudor for permission to search his car, but he said "no," so a search warrant was obtained.

While waiting for the warrant, deputies waited with Tudor in the hospital. He was allegedly observed trying to hide something he removed from his pants pocket. The item was a Xanax tablet, according to a doctor who looked at the pill.

Inside Tudor's car, deputies found a revolver with one spent round in the cylinder.

Also found was a box of ammunition and a small amount of marijuana.

After being treated for his shoulder injury, Tudor was taken to jail. A check of his criminal history showed he is a convicted felon, so it was illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm.

He was charged with giving false information to police, drug violations and illegal weapons possession.

* A 17-year-old Murrells Inlet resident said he was attacked by a group of individuals Tuesday evening.

The man met with deputies at the Waccamaw Hospital emergency room who said the assault occurred on Pond Road. He gave a written statement which stated "I got lynched ... by at least 25 teens who live in Horry County."

He said some of the teenagers had baseball bats and other weapons.

A 17-year-old female said she was with the victim when the group showed up. She said they tried to leave, but several of the suspects blocked them in and started attacking the victim.

The female was uninjured and the male victim suffered minor injuries, according to the report.

So far, no one has been arrested.

* A 20-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, was enjoying a vacation on Pawleys Island with his family Easter weekend when, out of the blue, his girlfriend -- also from Ontario, showed up at the family's vacation home.

The man said he was not expecting her, so deputies talked with the woman. She said she drove from Ontario to pick up her boyfriend and take him home. The man said he had no intentions of going anywhere with her. He also said before he left Canada, the woman tried to kill herself by taking an overdose of pills. She was hospitalized but checked herself out of the hospital and then made the long trip.

The man told deputies he wanted the woman to leave. When she was told her boyfriend did not want to see her, the woman "fell to the ground in hysteria," the report states.

She then again threatened to kill herself, so she was placed in emergency protective custody and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

* A 6-foot-tall, $1,000 bubble gum machine and a 3-foot-tall candy dispenser were stolen during a burglary at Fox's Pizza Den in Murrells Inlet overnight March 22.

The front glass door was shattered during the burglary.

* A 37-year-old man was found sleeping in the middle of Powell Road in Sampit at about 5 a.m. Sunday. The man, according to deputies, was very drunk. He was charged with disorderly conduct and was taken to jail.

* An investigation has been launched into allegations that a 16-year-old Maryville-area girl is involved in prostitution. The allegations came to light when one of the girl's friends told an adult about hearing some disturbing voicemail messages on the teen's cell phone. One of the messages is a 17-year-old man talking about how much the girl charges. There was no other information available at the time the initial report was written.

* A McDonald Road area woman called deputies March 21 because her husband was at a crack house and she wanted him to leave, the woman said.

She said he wanted to take their truck but she told him "no" because her mother has a lien on the vehicle.

The woman also said she would allow her husband to stay at their home if he agreed to take a drug test. The man said he wanted to leave to give his wife a chance to calm down. It was determined no crime had been committed.

He was at a crack house and there was no crime committed? Last time I checked, willfully being in the presence of drugs is a crime, be it distribution, use, or possession. Our legal system makes me laugh.
