The following reports were collected from local law enforcement offices:
Card game violence A 45-year-old South Fraser Street man said he and two others got into a fight concerning a card game they were playing Aug. 1. A 51-year-old man allegedly picked up a barbell and hit the younger man on the shoulder. While trying to protect himself, the other man grabbed the weight bar and hit the victim on the leg. The victim said he was able to fight the men off and they left. He was checked out by EMS but did not require a trip to the hospital. The man said he does want to prosecute.
Convenience store scuffle A woman was inside 521 Mini Mart getting a hot dog Aug. 1 when a 27-year-old woman walked up and accused her of stealing her cell phone. She said her accuser hit her and then pushed her into a hot dog machine causing hot water to be splashed on an employee. The victim said the suspect’s sister held her while the suspect hit her. The victim suffered minor eye injuries. No arrests were made.
Drug violations Police were sent to Hickory Knolls Apartments on Church Street July 31 because of a teen kicking on the door of a residence. Officers made contact with the juvenile and while patting him down, they found a pill bottle in his pocket which contained a small amount of crack cocaine and seven small bags of heroin. The teen was hit with two drug violation charges.
Simple assault A 23-year-old woman from Grate Ave. in Pawleys Island called 911 after an alleged assault. She said a 45-year-old Pawleys Island man had been driving past her house for about an hour after the two were in an altercation. She said the man kicked him on the knee, an area where he recently had surgery. The man also is accused of grabbing the woman and ripping her shirt. The woman said she is the mother of the suspect’s brother’s children. No charges have been filed.
Drunk banker Police were dispatched to Wachovia Bank on Front Street July 31 because of a customer causing a ruckus. They saw a man in a burgundy vehicle in the drive through yelling at the bank teller at the window. The officer walked over to the car and saw an open can of beer in the cup holder. The man admitted drinking, the report states, and was arrested. The man’s license had been suspended for several years.
