Police Blotter: Woman attacked and robbed in restaurant parking lot

Published on 5/29/2009

A woman told police she was attacked and robbed while in the parking lot of Szechuan’s Restaurant on Highmarket Street Tuesday evening.
The 39-year-old woman said she had just finished putting her child in his car seat when she was attacked from behind.
She said the man was grabbing at her purse but she tried to fight him off. He shoved her against her vehicle and then pushed her inside the truck. He was then able to get her purse and then ran towards Prince Street.
The woman had a slight injury on her finger which was the result of her trying to pull the purse from her attacker.
The pocketbook contained $500 in cash and several important cards and documents.
The area was searched but the robber was not located.

Attempted TV theft

Police received word a man was trying to steal a television from Wal Mart at about 12:30 a.m. May 21.
When officers arrived, they surrounded the building and waited. The man — not knowing he was under surveillance — carried the TV to the fenced in area of the garden center and placed it on a shelf.
The man climbed on the roof and then reached down and picked up the TV.
One of the officers walked up and ordered the man to get off the roof. He dropped the TV and started running.
Realizing he had no escape route off the roof because of the number of officers, the man sat on the edge of the roof.
An officer explained the man’s options and after a while he climbed down and was taken to jail.

Indecent exposure

A Burger King customer called police after a man exposed himself and urinated in the drive-through.
The caller said he was waiting in the line after placing his order when a passenger in the car in front of him got out of the vehicle holding a beer.
The man exposed himself and urinated on an unattended drive-through window.
The complainant gave police a description of the man who appeared to be 20-25 years old. He also provided the vehicle’s license tag number.
So far, the suspect has not been found.

Stolen equipment

Several vehicles belonging to Southern Coastal Cable were broken into May 19. More than $5,500 worth of equipment was reported stolen.
Vehicles belonging to workers of the company were also broken into.
There are no suspects.

Mocha attack

A man working the drive-through window at McDonald’s at Five Points was the recipient of a messy attack by an irate customer May 23.
A woman ordered an iced mocha with no ice. Thinking she meant she wanted a hot mocha, that’s what the  worker prepared.
The customer said that was not right and gave the drink back. The worker then gave her a cold iceless mocha.
The customer — a 37-year-old Highmarket Street woman — said it still was not right and threw the drink and hit the worker. The suspect then fled the area.
The woman was found a short while later and was arrested.
