The Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce has hired Lauren Cobb as Tourism Marketing Director.
She will be responsible for the work of the Tourism Management Commission.
The TMC is a seven member commission appointed by Georgetown County Council to oversee the County tourism marketing plan using allocations from the Accommodations Tax, grants and private cooperative partnerships. The plan has an approximate $700,000 annual budget and is dedicated to destination marketing.
Cobb is a native South Carolinian, growing up in Mullins but vacationing on the Waccamaw Neck since early childhood. She has been a full-time resident of Georgetown County since earning her BA from Furman University in 1984.
She has more than 10 years marketing experience, most of it destination tourism specific, and earned an MBA in Marketing in 2001.
While with a major Myrtle Beach advertising agency, she worked with the local marketing committees for several North Carolina beach communities, using accommodation tax revenue to promote the communities through traditional and Internet advertising.
She was responsible for developing and implementing multiple marketing plans. She also has extensive experience in using social media to promote destinations and businesses, including developing and implementing a curriculum to teach the use of social media to small business owners and employees.
In her role with the TMC, Lauren will be charged with developing the annual marketing plan, facilitating the plan, maintaining the website and all public relations and social media, writing grants, creating opportunities to add new partnerships, and managing the Commission.
