Seniors patrol wellness check
The Kingstree Police Department is offering a seniors patrol wellness check. Any elderly, ill or bedridden resident of the Town of Kingstree who would like for the police department to contact them on a regular basis should call Chief Robert Ford. Lake City Theatre to hold auditions
The Board of Directors of the Lake City Community Theatre has chosen The Music Man for the 2009 production. Once again Glen Gourley, Director of Theatre at Francis Marion University, will direct this popular musical. Opening night will be March 19 with three more shows to follow, March 20-22, 2009. When the Lake City Community Theatre was formed in 1989 the Board of Directors at that time chose The Music Man as the first production to be staged by this newly formed group. In 20 years community theatre has become one of the most popular annual events held in Lake City. Auditions will be held on October 20, 21 and 22 at the Blanding Street Auditorium at 7 p.m. each evening.
Anyone ages eight and older are encouraged to come to any of the auditions. The cast is huge and includes many teenagers. Gather up your children, teens and all others who are interested in community theatre and bring them to auditions.

Florence Museum holds exhibit
“Exploration of the Pee Dee: A Small Exhibit about a Big Place,” sponsored by the Pee Dee Land Trust will run through July 27 and will exhibit various natural and cultural artifacts from the Pee Dee region of South Carolina as well as highlight the importance of the Pee Dee river basin as the foundation of ecological and community growth throughout the region. The exhibit will look at regional wildlife habitats from the Sandhills to the Coastal Plains and explore the development of agriculture and industry from pre-colonial times to the present. In conjunction with the Pee Dee Land Trust, objects have been collect from institutions and individuals from around the Pee Dee. The objects in this exhibit offer uniqueness to each county as well as heritage goods and fine craftsmanship will be represented. The Florence Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 10-5, Sunday 2-5. Admission is $1 for 12 and older, students free, family maximum of $3. The museum will be closed on July 4.

In celebration of National Home ownership month, the Kingstree Rural Development Area office is sponsoring an open house. On this date, staff members will be available to explain the advantages and responsibilities of homeownership, assist with re-qualification applications, and counsel individuals on credit issues. The Rural Development 502 program offers direct loans to low and very low income applicants and guaranteed loans to moderate income applicants to buy an existing house, purchase or to build a new home. Now enrolling! Free four-year-old kindergarten for low-income children More than 40 private and non-profit preschools are now accepting applications for state-funded four-year-old kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year. Qualifying families pay no tuition as part of the S.C. Child Development Pilot Program, which was created by the S.C. General Assembly. Now in its third year, the program seeks to extend four-year-old kindergarten opportunities to at-risk children living in the school districts involved in the state’s school funding equity lawsuit. To qualify, a child must: •Be four years old on or before Sept. 1, 2008. •Be eligible for free/reduced lunch or Medicaid. •Live in Williamsburg County.
