Georgetown City Council will hold a special meeting at 3:30 p.m. today to interview a candidate for interim administrator.

A second meeting will be held back-to-back, starting at 4:30 p.m.

That will be the regular meeting of Council. No specific reason was given for starting that meeting an hour earlier than usual. Each of the meetings will be in Council Chambers at City Hall on North Fraser Street.

In the first meeting, Council plans to go into executive session to interview a candidate, identified as possibly being Miles Hadley, former city manager of Columbia.

Charles Martin, retired city manager from North Augusta, may also be interviewed at a later date.

The two men were suggested by the Municipal Association of South Carolina (MASC), according to published reports.

Georgetown is advertising on its own Web site, www.cogsc.com and on other sites for a "permanent" city administrator to replace Steve Thomas.

The Conway resident was hired in Georgetown in 2005 with a condition that he move here within 12 months. That never happened. Thomas had been fired from a similar position in Conway and efforts were made here to fire him before, ultimately, he was allowed to resign. He also got a $40,000 severance package. Thomas' last day on the Georgetown payroll was Oct. 3.

While the search is underway for a permanent replacement, members of City Council are seeking an interim administrator.

No agenda has been provided as yet for the regular City Council meeting, which starts early at 4:30 p.m. It is also unavailable on the City's Web site.

Road show

According to the Municipal Association Web site, its "Hometown, SC Road Show" will make a stop in Georgetown on Friday at 11:30 a.m.

The Road Show will be at Georgetown City Hall. It's designed to inform government agencies in the area served by Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments (WRCOG) about legislative goals for the next two years.

More information is available on the Web site, www.masc.sc.
