Firefighters and police officers from Arizona, known as "Guardians of the Ribbon," will bring their pink fire truck, turnout gear, helmets and a very large ribbon to the Waccamaw Imaging Center in Murrells Inlet on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 1:30 p.m.
The group is on a "Pink Ribbon Tour" across America to raise awareness and money for breast cancer research and provide love, hope and support for those affected by this disease.
Renee Collins is organizing a local fund-raising drive to provide a donation for the group once it arrives.
"I would love to be able to give them a huge donation," she says, "but I'm sure they'll be happy with anything. If this is something you feel you would like to help and want to donate, see me or contact me."
Reach Collins at 222-0307, and she will arrange to pick up the donation if needed. To write a check, make it payable to Guardians of the Ribbon Inc.
"My husband and I are members of a firefighters riding club called the Red Knights and our Chapter S.C. 1, along with the chapter from Charleston, is going to be part of this tour. We will be escorting the Guardians of the Ribbon from Charleston through Myrtle Beach up to N.C. and they will be met there by the N.C. Chapter for their next leg on the tour," said Collins.
Collins is participating in the event in memory of her mother, Jackie Ross, who died of breast cancer July 4, 2005.
"I have been doing all I can to help fight for a cure," she said. "Now I am asking for your help! I am taking up donations in memory of my mother and all those that have been touched by this disease to help the Guardians of the Ribbon."
Eventually, the Pink Fire Truck will deliver care packages to a breast cancer patient's home to help with the burden due to this disease. This ribbon was built in honor of all the people who battle cancer.
and the families who work to make their lives better. A timeless statue to remind our future generations that people who are not affected by an illness can come together for those that are.
This pink fire truck with all the signatures, tells
a story of sacrifice and the will to live. It also represents hope and love for those affected by breast cancer by letting them know we care. Can you imagine the power behind the image of all of us in pink to someone who worries day to day that they may not live. I think it will give them more energy to fight this disease and at the very least, bring us all together around the globe for a great cause. The ultimate goal is to have more than one pink fire truck that will go on missions of hope and love to someone's home. Guardians of the Ribbon is a non-profit organization that will continue its efforts for years to come.
