Even while the Charlie Campbell family remained in shock over the fire that destroyed their family business, there were already plans to rebuild.
The Murrells Inlet restaurant and bar, which had been the location for numeous charity events over the past 10 years, was struck by a devastating blaze early Wednesday morning.
While firefighters do not know the exact cause of the blaze, Campbell said he was told it started around the outdoor deck, near the spot of a live oak tree that is a favorite of restaurant customers.
The live oak is expected to survive and Campbell said the first steps have already started to rebuild the restaurant.
“We’re already planning on rebuilding,” Campbell said. “We’ve got a couple of calls into the county. For a rebuild of this size, we would have to abide by current codes. We want to replicate the outside deck, since that has become a famous little spot.”
Other restaurants in the area have pledged to hire about 70 employees who were displaced by the fire.
The employees can work in other locations while the restaurant is being rebuilt, they said.
