Play for the regular season wrapped up at the end of October. Only one local team is still in regional play-offs.

With the sound of the buzzers as the scoreboard clocks ran down to the last seconds, this year's football season came to an end Oct. 30 for two of four high school teams in Georgetown County.

Despite their loss to Manning the previous Friday, however, the Waccamaw Warriors went to Cheraw last Friday night for the first round of the Class AA Lower State regional play-offs.

They were done in by the Cheraw Braves with a score of 34-7, however, and the season ended for the Pawleys Island-area team.

There were 16 games Nov. 6, with winners of those contests going on to play on Nov. 13.

As the field narrows down, the state championship game for Class AA will take place at 3 p.m. Dec. 5 at USC's Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia on Dec. 5.

Carvers Bay High School hosted St. John's in a Class A Lower State match-up last week, defeating the Johns Island team by a score of 20-18.

The Division I contest had eight games around the state.

The state championship for Class A will be decided on Nov. 27 -- the day after Thanksgiving, at S.C. State University in Orangeburg.

Both Andrews and Georgetown high schools lost their games on Oct. 30, and with those losses their seasons ended.

Andrews had a possibility, but their 35-14 loss to Hanahan closed that door.

Georgetown lost its contest to Lake City on a score of 38-0 for the Bulldogs, though the team already knew its season was over with that game.

Carvers Bay will face long-time rival Hemingway at the Williamsburg County town on Friday for the second round of playoffs.

The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Advance tickets will be sold Thursday and Friday from 11:40 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in front of the Hemingway High School gymnasium.
