Alan Wilson said he had a busy day Thursday, soon after he announced his run for S.C. attorney general.
Wilson is the son of Rep. Joe Wilson, the shouter who became angry at President Barack Obama.
Alan Wilson, who stopped by Georgetown Thursday night, said he plans to be on the CBS Morning news today to defend his father's words.
He also wants to focus on the issue that made his father angry at President Barack Obama.
"I've been answering a lot of questions,'' Alan Wilson said. "It's been a busy day.''
He said his father apologized for the location of the shouting, but is not apologizing for what he said.
"I'm proud of my dad,'' he said. "I thought the apology was well said. I thought he spoke the truth. The issue is in the bill that caused him to say that.''
The issue that caused his father to shout was the fact that illegal aliens will be able get free health care, Alan Wilson said.
"Illegal immigrants will be on the public dole,'' he said.
He added that his father's emotions got the better of him and it "triggered a response" that has been criticized as being impolite.
"My dad is a very calm man,'' Alan Wilson said. "I can count the times he has lost his cool.''
While there was some criticism of Joe Wilson, he also picked up some fans on Facebook, according to Time Magazine.
"His Facebook page registered 1,200 comments, many of them strongly supporting his outburst and criticizing him only for backing down. A Facebook user named Bugs wrote, "We need to find an antidote to the Obama Kool-aid. You go, Joe!" the magazine said.

Former South Carolina Republican Party Chair Katon Dawson said, "If Joe Wilson's mother and father were alive, they'd have taken him to the woodshed and flogged him for bad manners and poor form." Posted by on 9/11/2009 |

Bad as I hate to say it. Too much is being made of the YOU LIE! outburst. Inappropriate yes, but so was the Dems. booing GWB. Where was the outcry then. Taking off my rose colored glasses I can see why conservatives need Fox News. There is an imbalance out there. My biggest gripe with Fox is the editorializing and eyerolling of their anchors. Particularly Edie. There is just as much agenda there as on MSNBC. Posted by Lee Padgett on 9/11/2009 |
