The Georgetown YMCA Wahoo Swim team worked hard and improved all season heading into the YMCA Championship meet in Rock Hill.
Coaches Mary Wall and Zack Moore have implemented new strategies during their practices that have helped the swimmers increase their endurance and strength. The results have shown in the past couple of meets with more swimmers finishing in the top spots in each event.
On Jan. 19, the Wahoos traveled to Myrtle Beach to participate in a Pentathalon Meet. All swimmers had to compete in five events: backstroke, breast stroke, individual medley, butterfly and freestyle.
The combination of all five times determined the final standings.
Top 10 finishers were:
6U girls: first, Gracie Priest.
8U girls: first, Grey Barrier; third, Kelsey Campell; ninth, Gracie Priest.
8U boys: fifth, Briar Long.
9-12 girls: third, Quinn Barrier; fourth, Cameron Kuenzle; fifth, Hannan Mackey.
9-12 boys: sixth, Edwin Lopez.
13-18 girls: second, Chrissie Barrier; third, Taylor McConnell; fourth, Abigail Pagett.
13-18 boys: third, Andrew Gwinn.
On Jan. 26, the Wahoos traveled to a meet at the Hartsville YMCA.
Top 10 finishers were:
6U girls: Gracie Pifer, first in 25-yard breast, 25-yard back and 100-yard individual medley.
6U boys: Briar Long, first in 25-yard breast, 25-yard back and 100-yard individual medley.
7-8 girls: Abigail Condon, first in 25-yard free and 200-yard free and second in 100-yard individual medley; Mia Paglio, third in 25-yard free; Grey Barrier, third in 100-yard individual medley.
9-10 girls: Emma Sullivan, first in 50-yard free and 100-yard back, second in 50-yard fly, and third in 100-yard individual medley; Hannan Mackey, second in 50-yard free and 100-yard back; Quinn Barrier, first in 100-yard individual medley, and second in 100-yard breast; Cameron Kuenzle, first in 50-yard fly and third in 100-yard back.
9-10 boys: Michael Paglio, second in 50-yard fly, 100-yard back and 100-yard individual medley, and third in 50-yard free; Edwin Lopez, second in 100-yard breast; Cameron Bonham, third in 100-yard individual medley.
11-12 girls: Catherine Condon, second in 50-yard fly and 100-yard back, and third in 50-yard free and 100-yard individual medley.
11-12 boys: Hunter Shull, third in 100-yard back.
The Wahoos most recent meet was in Sumter on Feb. 10.

13-14 girls: Chrissie Wall, first in 100-yard fly and 200-yard fly, and second in 100-yard back and 50-yard free; Abigail Pagett, third in 500-yard free; Darrien Gadner, third in 200-yard back.
15-18 girls: Andie Powers, first in 100-yard breast.
15-18 boys: Caleb Freyer, first in 200-yard fly.

The Wahoo swim team is accepting new swimmers. Being a part of the league involves competitive swimming against other YMCA swim teams across the state and attending the state meets held at the end of each swim season.
All members receive ribbons at the meets throughout the season and a medal at the end of the season banquet.
