Newly sworn in Andrews Town Council members Mattie McGee and David Tisdale joined re-elected Mayor Rodney Giles and returning members Angela Andersen and Patricia Greene as the council's latest members.
Council members Sid Ackerman and Thomas Alford were also in attendance at the monthly meeting.
Mayor Giles thanked everyone for coming and then invited Mattie McGee and David Tisdale to address the council and say a few words.
Mattie McGee said, "There are so many problems that came to me about things going on in Andrews that I think I got myself into a can of worms."
"I will do my best and try to help the citizens and do what we can as a group," she said.
David Tisdale said he is pleased to be here and be a member of the council. "I came back to Andrews about 11 years ago and I am really looking forward to being involved with the town and helping as much as I possibly can to help our town grow,  and that will benefit every citizen. I thank you for the opportunity."
Mayor Giles said he appreciates their taking the time to serve the town.
Turning to other business, Giles told the council members that Town Administrator Windham Roland, wants to extend his contract three more months to May 4, everything stays the same and there is no pay increase. The motion was passed. Giles said Andrews received a cost estimate about repairs for Jet Vac.
"It's very important we have that machine because right now its in repair," he said. "There is a two-cost estimate for repairs, a $9,150 for the rebuild and $14,996 for a brand new pump."
Concerns were raised over what kind of warranty comes with the pump. The Council Members agreed to find out about the warranty situation and then take a vote.

In other business

Council Member Thomas Alford told the Council the Lion's Club got the okay through the town to line Main Street with flags on certain holidays and that brackets are being built to hold the flags, "which will change the look of the town at least for a day or two."
Patsy Greene said they will soon be announcing the recreation plans. "I would like to say a lot of people are looking at our website now and we have to update that. One main restaurant we need to put on our website is McDonalds because a lot of people go there and ask why it isn't on our website. New industries should also be added."
Andrews Police Chief Jennifer Flowers said the biggest issue the department has right now is that the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office will not be retrieving Andrews stray dogs anymore.
"We are trying to get answers to this," she said.
In discussing medical fire calls, Andrews Fire Chief Bob Barrineau told members when EMS needs assistance or when the ambulance is not in town, "the only way we come is if they call us specifically."
"We don't chase ambulances," he said. "The truck says Andrews Fire Department and we really are a fire department but we help EMS when they call us."
Barrineau also said the new fire truck will be ready for inspection sometime around April 1.
