Coach Kevin Branham of Andrews High said his boys varsity basketball team "executed the game plan. They did what we asked them to do."

The final score in Tuesday's game Dec. 8 against Lincoln of McClellanville was similar to the girls' game -- 67 to 27 for Andrews.

Branham's goals were to win, get everyone in the game and to score. "We came pretty close to accomplishing all these," he said.

Last week's game against Myrtle Beach was sloppy, he said. On Tuesday, the team came out from the start with its game plan.

"Towards the end of the second half, we started subbing some of the other guys." The half-time score was 37 to 9 in favor of Andrews.

"Everybody has had somebody run the score up on them," he acknowledged. "I wanted to get our starters out, get as much of my bench playing time as possible."

Andrews scored 23 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 20 in the third and 10 in the final period, for a total of 67.

Lincoln scored 6 points, then 3, 6 and 12 for the other quarters for a total of 27.

The Andrews team shot 60 percent overall from the field, and 29 percent were 3-point shots. Both of those figures are about where he wants the team to be.

"The only down spot was 7 for 14 from the free throw line," or 50 percent.

Harold Langley and Stefon Collins each scored 16 points.

Cory Rush had 6 points, 4 assists, 5 steals and 3 rebounds. Neal Pope had 6 rebounds, Deshawn McCray 5 rebounds, and Ken Funnye had 7 points.

"I was pleased with the starting group overall," Branham said. And, the guys who came off the bench did well in spurts, though they need work on consistency.

"They were not playing with the intensity I wanted," he said.

Branham was "particularly impressed" with Tyree Scott, Rick Smith and Larry Brown.

Scott is "a very unselfish player. I've been on him, when shots come open, he needs to take them."

Looking ahead, the Andrews team had to get ready for Friday's game against Hemingway. It was tough to lose against them last week.

"The guys are hungry for the game. There'll be a big crowd. A lot of intensity," Branham said.

"It should be a fun night. But, our goal is to come out and win that game. Always."
