Dayvon Jones was an energetic 12-year-old who was anxiously looking forward to starting classes at a new school when the school year begins next week.

Jones, who completed 5th grade at Andrews Elementary School in June, was less than two weeks away from advancing to the 6th grade at Rosemary Middle School when he was killed in a tragic accident Sunday evening.

He, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, was playing on the back of an 18-wheel truck belonging to his uncle Jerome David Ramsey Jr. The truck itself was disconnected from the trailer and Jones climbed on the back portion of the truck. He was on top of "the fifth wheel" on the truck and was not seen by his uncle when he jumped inside and started driving.

A witness told authorities Ramsey proceeded forward as if he was going somewhere. He then started backing the truck up to hook it up to the trailer. Jones' leg got pinned between the trailer and the truck. He was crushed by the impact, according to Coroner Kenny Johnson.

The witness said she tried screaming at Ramsey to stop the truck but Ramsey did not hear her because the music in the truck was loud, according to the report.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Neil Johnson said Tuesday the matter is still being investigated "to ensure that there was no negligence involved."

Jones is survived by three siblings, including a twin brother. It's the second deadly accident in Georgetown County this summer that claimed the life of a twin. On July 14, 14-year-old Garrett Ray died after colliding with a vehicle while riding a dirt bike near his Pleasant Hill area home. He is survived by his twin brother, Tyler.

"He brightened my day"

Jones was the type of student who was easily liked by those who knew him, said Laura Tucker, the nurse at Andrews Elementary for the past few years.

"As his nurse, I had frequent contact with him. His loss resonates deeply among everyone who knew him at school," Tucker said Monday. "I watched him grow up, so I was stunned and saddened when I heard the news."

Tucker said Jones was "a neat kid" who was "very energetic" and had a lot of potential.

"He had a really interesting personality and he brightened my day when I would see him," she said.

AES Principal Brian Clarke agreed.

He said Jones was very enthusiastic about the school's "Panda Bucks" program which awards student with "panda dollars" for good behavior which can be spent at a store in the school.

"He loved to go to the Panda Store. I know when he was in 4th grade he started at the beginning of the year trying to save for a bicycle," Clarke said.

Jones, Clarke said, had lots of friends.

"He was very popular and really enjoyed coming to school," Clarke said. "He was a well-rounded young man who would do anything to make you happy."

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McKnight-Fraser of Andrews.

My heart hurts with you and your family, there are no words to express or to ease the pain. People come and go and try to help, try to comfort you in some form, I Thank God for people like that, I know your hearts are so broken and it seems no comfort will ever be found, but I know the Great Comforter. I know when you call on Him, He purges Himself in You, He will comfort you like no other. He will give you strength, He will give you peace, and HE WILL mend your broken hearts. He loves you and your family, He sees and feels your pain. To the Uncle, please forgive yourself, it was an accident. When the Lord calls his children home to be with him, nothing or no one can stop the plans he has for his children. To the friends, neighbors, and people who share their pain, please have a gentle ear to listen to the family. Just listen, they will need to talk about their precious, precious love one. Your Family is in my prayers and all my love is extended to you. God Will See You Through, His Word Is True.

My deepest condolences to the family.Let us all pray for the family for the loss of a child, and for the uncle who will forever carry a burden. Do not point blame or ask what ifs and whys. No matter the circumstances of his death, the Lord made a decision to take this child home, and when that decision is made nothing in this world can change it.

My heart felt sympathy goes out to this family. May your faith carry you through this very difficult time. He is with the God now.
