Waccamaw High's wrestling team beat Georgetown 54-20 last week in a tri-match that also featured Aynor.

"I thought we wrestled well," Waccamaw coach Scott Cook said. "[Georgetown] is coming along. I was impressed by them."

Waccamaw picked up pins by Adar Singh (145 pounds), Parker Williams (152), Kevin Mushock (160), Travis Pierce (220) and Hunter Brininger (heavyweight). Brininger's match lasted only 22 seconds.

Tyler Pettit (132), Jeremy Lee (106), Bobby Walters (113) and Hank Hutto (120) picked up wins by forfeit for the Warriors.

Forfeits are "our biggest problem right now," Georgetown coach Sean Griffin said. "We wrestled really hard. Most of the matches went to a third period. It shows we're doing our conditioning really well."

Georgetown picked up pins by Deion Windley (126) and Michael Maddox (170) and wins on points by Dustin Pack (138), Jamel Smith (182) in overtime, and Kysan Pickney (195). Pickney scored two points in the last 20 seconds of his match for the come-from-behind win.

Aynor beat Waccamaw 50-29 and Georgetown 58-19.

Pettit and Brininger picked up pins for the Warriors against the Blue Jackets and Williams and Malcolm Gibbs (182) won on points.

"They're the best team in the region and we're still a level below them," Cook said. "We've got to work on not getting pinned."

Waccamaw lost eight of the 14 Aynor matches by pins.

"Our young guys are so inexperienced they can't stay off their backs," Cook said. "But we've been making gains."

Aynor won four matches against Georgetown by pin, and got four forfeits.

Jamel Smith and Nick Cooper (heavyweight) picked up pins for the Bulldogs, and Pack and Juwan Gibbs (170) won on points.

Georgetown is now 3-15. The Bulldogs had no team victories last season.

"It's been a very good season," Griffin said. "It's something we can build on."
