Waccamaw High's boys basketball team knocked off Class AAA Socastee 64-60 on Monday night for its first win of the season.

The Warriors led 16-13 at the end of the first quarter, and 32-29 at the half. Socastee took a 44-43 at the end of the third quarter, but Waccamaw outscored the Braves by five points in the fourth quarter for the victory.

Adonis Williams had 22 points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Warriors. Rob Ferraro had 17 points, Noah Gulley had nine points, Stephon Funnye had seven points and four assists, and Matt Fisher had six points and six rebounds.

Socastee's girls dominated Waccamaw 69-20 to keep the Lady Warriors winless. Waccamaw went scoreless in the third quarter.

Kirstin Zanardo scored 21 points to single-handedly outscore the Lady Warriors.

Janae Rice had six points to lead Waccamaw. Mary Tyler had four points and Jess Freedom had three.

Lowcountry Prep

The Fighting Marlins improved to 4-1 on the season with a 55-36 win over Palmetto Christian Academy.

Lowcountry Prep, the two-time defending SCISA Class A state champions, trailed 25-23 at halftime, but dominated the second half.

Elizabeth Zieser scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to the lead the Fighting Marlins. Sydney Derrick had 10 points and 15 rebounds, Rachael Exum had 15 points and Leldon McClary had 11 points.

The Fighting Marlins also have wins over Carolina Academy and Dillon Christian.

Exum scored 18 points in the 47-39 win over Carolina Academy, and also had a "good defensive performance," according to first-year head coach David Long.

Derrick had 10 points and 15 rebounds and Marguerite McClary had six steals.

Exum had 15 points to lead the Fighting Marlins to a 41-25 win over Dillon Christian. Derrick grabbed nine rebounds
