Waccamaw High's boys basketball team dominated Lincoln 71-40 last week, in a game where every player who dressed for the game scored.

"I was proud of our effort and intensity," Waccamaw coach Mike Quinn said. "We didn't want to lose our intensity no matter who was on the floor."

Noah Gulley swatted the opening tip to A.J. Grant, who scored for the 2-0 lead and the Warriors were off to the races.

Waccamaw held Lincoln scoreless until less than a minute left in the first quarter and took a 15-1 into the second quarter.

Lincoln finally got its first basketball of the game with 6:55 left in the second quarter as Waccamaw extended its lead to 33-10 at the half.

The Yellow Jackets came out with more intensity in the second half and outscored the Warriors 18-17 in the third quarter, cutting the lead to 50-28, but Waccamaw held on 71-40.

Dejan Frasier led the Warriors with 18 points and five rebounds. Trevor Newbauer added 14 points, Noah Gulley had nine points and 10 rebounds, and A.J. Grant had eight points.

"We played very unselfishly," Quinn said. "We've got to take that into the region."

Waccamaw's girls picked up their second win of the season, a 56-22 victory over Lincoln.

Both Warriors' wins have been over the Yellow Jackets.

"It's good to get a win," coach Robert Burdette said. "We've got to get better on the defensive end and rebounding. We're committing lots of fouls on missed rebounds."

Waccamaw committed 19 fouls in the game, but Lincoln only hit on eight shots.

The teams were tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Waccamaw started to pull away in the second and led 31-10 at the half.

Waccamaw only outscored the Yellow Jackets 10-8 in the third quarter to take a 41-18 lead into the fourth, but held the Yellow Jackets to four points in the fourth to secure the victory.

Eight of the 11 Warriors scored in the game.

Aaliyah Hudson led Waccamaw with 18 points. Mary Tyler added 14 and Imani Carr had six.

Waccamaw starts region play this week and Burdette expects the Warriors to be battling Loris and Aynor for fourth place and the final playoff spot in Region VIII-AA.

"I'm hoping playing Georgetown, Socastee and St. James early in the season will help us."
