Mark Prudhomme had the best weekend of his already spectacular calling career.

The Georgetown native won the GNCC Champion of Champions Division on Saturday for his fourth victory in five events at the National Wild Turkey Federation Convention and Sport Show in Nashville, Tenn.

“I never expected anything like that,” said Prudhomme. “There are so many great callers here.”

Prudhomme opened the convention on Thursday by defeating 18 competitors in owl hooting. Less than an hour later, he bested 25 competitors to complete the sweep in gobbling.

Though Prudhomme has a total of 16 GNCC titles, it was his first GNCC owl hooting championship.

“To win those two back-to-back was kind of special,” said Prudhomme. “You know when you did what you wanted to do, but you never know how it will turn out because everyone else is on their game, too. The level of competition here is unbelievable.”

Prudhomme and partner Kerry Terrell of Brooklet, Ga., then won the GNCC Team Challenge calling competition on Friday.

Prudhomme’s only stumble of the weekend came in the Senior Division, when his call malfunctioned.

Prudhomme, a wildlife manager at a Georgetown plantation, also won the Champion of Champions division in 2009-2012.

“I really enjoy the format,” Prudhomme said. “I like being able to run all the variety of calls. It’s the event that makes you work the hardest, so it makes me the happiest when I when.”

He has been competing in calling contests since 1996.
