Lowcountry Prep Schools boys basketball was held to one point in the first quarter of a 64-32 loss to Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach on Tuesday night.
"We continue to struggle at the start of every game," Fighting Marlins Jeff Bombich said.
"Once we get in that hole the players don't have the confidence that we can claw our way out of it."
After going into the half down 37-7, Lowcountry Prep played better in the second half, scoring 11 in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth.
"I was very proud of how hard we played right up to the buzzer to end the game," Bombich said.
Unique Gardner had 18 points to lead Lowcountry Prep. Tristan Teems had nine points and 14 rebounds.
The Fighting Marlins were coming off a 68-48 loss to James Island and a 64-27 win over Trident Academy last week.
Against James Island, Lowcountry Prep committed 21 fouls, which the Lions converted into 44 points.
Teems had 17 points and 9 rebounds, Gardner had 11 points and Shan Deeter had eight points.
Lowcountry Prep was down 9-2 early to Trident, but scored the next 21 points to go ahead for good.
Gardner had 24 points and 10 assists and Teems had 17 points and 14 rebounds.
"Our team has been settling for giving a great effort and being satisfied instead of having the desire to giving a great effort and wanting to win," Bombich said. "If we can somehow find that confidence in ourselves and make the conscious decision to want to win we can come out on top."
