Georgetown American Legion Post 114 has already scored 34 runs this season and started off 3-1.
"I'm happy with the way we're swinging it right now," coach Jeff Gregory said.
The team has players and graduates from Waccamaw, Andrews and Georgetown high schools.
"It's the best baseball I coach in the area," said Gregory, who is also Waccamaw's head coach.
Patrick Ward of Andrews led Georgetown to a 10-6 win in game one of the season against Manning, going 3-4 with four RBIs at the plate and scattering three hits and striking out nine on the mound.
"Not a bad outing for him on opening night," Gregory said.
Georgetown had 14 hits overall. Waccamaw's Richard Archer had three and Waccamaw's J.D. Whitlock had two.
Georgetown then got smoked by Florence 16-3 to open Florence's pre-season tournament.
"They handled us pretty easily," Gregory said. "We didn't play well, didn't hit the ball."
Ward had three of Georgetown's four hits and had two RBIs. "He's starting off on fire," Gregory said.
Florence is an annual a contender for the American Legion state title. The Florence coach has a pool of about 5,000 kids to choose from; Gregory has about 1,200.
"They're in the elite five of American Legion baseball," Gregory said. "We either pick it up or get blown out. We'll find a way to be competitive."
Georgetown bounced back to bang out 12 hits and beat Hartsville 8-1.
Georgetown High's Mac Jordan pitched a three-hitter and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
"It was a great outing by him," Gregory said.
Andrews' Tyler Ward went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Waccamaw High graduate Travis Shelley went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Georgetown then beat Cheraw 13-10 to take third place in the tournament.
"It was good ball game," Gregory said. "We matched up extremely well."
Waccamaw's Trevor Newbauer got the win and Andrews' Austin Smith got the save.
Andrews' Alex McElwee went 3-for-4, including a home run, and had four RBIs, and Waccamaw graduate Logan Caulder went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
