TV station WPDE named three Georgetown County basketball players to its WPDE Hoop Zone and honored them last week at their All Star Banquet in Myrtle Beach.
Cory Rush of Andrews, and Carlton Geathers and Angelo Brown of Carvers Bay, were among the players picked for the Hoop Zone.
Rush has been a three-year starter for Andrews who's averaged 16 points and 4.5 steals per game. He shoots 58 percent from the field.
Geathers, at 7 feet and 265 pounds, is the biggest man to gain the recognition. He's averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also blocks 5 shots per game for the Carvers Bay Bears.
Teammate Angelo Brown is a point guard for the Bears. At 5'8", the tall Geathers towers over Brown but the pair work well together, coach Jeff Mezzatesta says. Brown's vertical jump has been measured at 40".
Coach Kevin Branham of the Andrews Yellow Jackets has several other players who've also been honored.
Three players were selected to the Region 7AA all region team. They are Cory Rush, Stefon Collins, and Harold Langley Jr. Ken Funnye was selected as Honorable Mention.
Cory Rush was also selected to the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association 2A All State Team.
"Only 16 players from the entire state were selected for 2A schools," Branham said.
"Cory will be recognized this Saturday, March 20, at North Myrtle Beach High School in between the North/South Girls and North/South Boys Basketball games."
