Waccamaw High's girls basketball team was outscored 30-4 in the third quarter against Marion on Friday en route to a 67-33 defeat.

The Warriors were held scoreless for the first 5 minutes of the game, but rallied and trailed 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and 27-18 at the half.

"We played well in the first half and got their attention," Waccamaw coach Robert Burdette said. After halftime "they came out and did what they had to do."

Marion's defense shut Waccamaw down in the third quarter to extend the lead to 57-22.

The Warriors outscored the Swamp Foxes 11-10 in the fourth but by then the lead was too big.

"They're pretty good," Burdette said. "They do it not only with their defense. They'll go deep in the playoffs."

Aaliyah Hudson led Waccamaw with nine points. Mary Tyler had eight points, Jamaica Alston had six and Rachel Thornton had four.
