Georgetown High's boys basketball held Andrews to six points in the fourth quarter to secure a 68-39 victory on Dec. 16.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter, but the Yellow Jackets battled back to cut the lead to 29-21 at the half.

Georgetown extended its lead to 47-33 at the end of the third quarter, and then held Andrews in check in the fourth.

"Friday night in Andrews is always a tough game," Georgetown coach Alvin Walker said. "We continue to play pretty good on defense."

"Georgetown was the better team tonight," Andrews coach Kevin Branham said.

Andrews was without two players who were suspended Friday for breaking school and team rules. Branham declined to identify the players or say how long the suspensions might last.

"It hurt us mentally," Branham said. "We came out flat. We just didn't play to our capabilities."

Travis Collins led the Yellow Jackets with 10 points. Juwan Grant had nine points, Ervin Heard had five and Rodquel Davis had four.

Both Georgetown and Andrews will compete in Hemingway's post-Christmas tournament Dec. 28-31.

Girls' results

Shanell Wright and Justis Evans each recorded double-doubles to lead Georgetown over Andrews 70-19 on Dec. 16.

Wright had 10 points and 13 rebounds and Evans had 10 points, 12 rebounds and six steals.

"Justis showed up tonight," Bulldogs coach Tony Ford said. "If she shows up every night we're a go."

Ford played everybody on his bench, and almost everybody scored.

"We played a perfect game," Ford said. "They couldn't do anything with our press."

Raven Smith scored 17 points, and Taziya Moody had 12.

"We keep getting better every game," Ford said.

Jasmine Eaddy and Jasmine Cobb combined for 22 points for Carvers Bay in a 57-30 loss to Socastee on Dec. 16.

The Braves held the Bears to single digits in the first and third quarters, 11 points in the second and 12 in the fourth.
