Football games are all local this week

Tommy Howard/Times — Waccamaw High School football players spent a hot afternoon Wednesday practicing fundamentals. Coaches got in the middle of things to help the players, as here, where the coach is ready to fire a pass and a player comes up to block the throw, at bottom.
Jump for it.

Kicking off the second week of regular-season play, all four of Georgetown County's high school football teams will play locally tonight.

Andrews hosts Mullins in their newly-painted stadium at 7:30 p.m.

Carvers Bay will welcome the Bulldogs of Georgetown High to the Bears' Den in the northwestern part of the county. That game starts at 7 p.m.

And, Waccamaw plays host to St. James at Warrior Field in Pawleys Island at 7:30 p.m.

Last week, all the teams went outside the county for their first games of the season.

Andrews defeated Johnsonville 63-20.

Timberland won 13-6 over Carvers Bay in overtime.

Mullins won 22-2 over Georgetown.

Waccamaw defeated Latta 50-0.

Friday night

Ken Blanchard is in his second year as head coach at Andrews. He said last week the offense is "100 times better" and he expects the Yellow Jackets to do well this season.

Carvers Bay hosts Georgetown. Coach Nate Thompson said the Bears lost a tough game last week to Timberland. He knows Georgetown had a difficult situation with their starting and back-up quarterbacks out due to injuries. Bulldogs coach Bradley Adams said he would be working with his team this week to find ways to deal with that adversity.

Thompson said with the intra-county rivalry of the two schools, the record book can be thrown out the window.

Up on the Waccamaw Neck, coach Tyronne Davis came off a nice 50-0 win over Latta in his first game as head coach of the Warriors. He said with tonight's opponent St. James, that record book can also be tossed out since the teams are so close and many of the kids on both teams know their rivals.
