Georgetown 8, Andrews 6
Dogs barking was the sound in the night as the Georgetown High School Bulldogs got their first win under new head football coach Bradley Adams.
The play-by-play announcer used the sound of the dogs Friday night whenever the team did well -- and while he didn't wear out the sound effect, he certainly helped it become familiar to the fans.
Jasmar Heyward started things off for the Bulldogs putting up their first touchdown of the season at 5:37 left in the first quarter. That score came on a pass from Patrick Ward. To get to that point, the Bulldogs made a drive of about 70 yards on their first possession of the game.
For his part, Ward had 13 carries on the night for 32 yards. He was 8 for 16 with 79 yards passing, despite the broken hand he suffered several weeks ago.
Just after the second quarter began, Tyler McDonald tackled an Andrews player for a safety, making it 8-0.
That's where the scoreboard stayed until about halfway through the fourth quarter.
Larry Brown intercepted a Georgetown pass for Andrews and returned the ball 22 yards for the Yellow Jackets' touchdown.
Tremendous job
"Our defense did a tremendous job," Adams said. "They kept them from making a two-point conversion."
"We had over 200 yards total offense, and over 120 yards rushing."
"Our whole offensive line did a tremendous job," he said. "We worked diligently all week. Those guys carried the football team [Saturday] night.
"Patrick Ward played a tremendous football game. He only made one mistake all night. He executed plays all the time."
LeeShawn Cromedy continues to impress the coach "and everyone watching Georgetown football."
Other key defensive players include Ernest Greene and Xavier Lawrence.
"Jasmar Hayward, as he continues to run the defense as free safety, makes the right calls."
The defensive backs are making the right moves, he continued.
The Georgetown punter, Casey Newton, "kept us in great field position all night long. He did a tremendous job all night kicking the football."
Additionally, Leonard Leak had 18 carries for 57 yards, and Julian Lunsford was 13 for 46.
Proud of kids
"I'm very happy and proud of these kids," Adams said. "I'm very happy for the community and glad to see the excitement.
"The kids and the community have worked hard. It's going to get better every week. We want to make people excited about the game of football in Georgetown," Adams said.
Andrews
For the Andrews Yellow Jackets, this was their first loss after three weeks of play.
Along with Larry Brown's 22-yard interception return for a touchdown, quarterback Ken Funnye had 18 carries for 51 yards. Brown had 6 carries for 32 yards, and Jaleel Filmore was 6 for 35.
Clarence Penny had 10 carries for 27 yards for Andrews.
On the night, Funnye was 1 for 4 passing with 38 yards. Harold Langley made the catch.
