Here is a wrapup of some of the high school basketball action from Thursday and Friday.
Carvers Bay
The Bears' boys team improved to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in Region VIII-A with a 67-59 win over Johnsonville on Friday night.
Carvers Bay led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter, and 40-28 at the half. Johnsonville battled back in the third, outscoring Carvers Bay 19-8, and cut the lead to one point. But the Bears held off the Flashes in the fourth for the victory.
Teondre Bromell was the leading scorer for Carvers Bay with 19 points. Rayshod Pittman and Da'Shawn Aiken each scored 14 and Walter Linnen added 11.
Andrews
The Yellow Jackets' girls team kept Timberland winless with a 50-30 win on Friday night.
Andrews was clinging to a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter but held Timberland in single digits in scoring for the rest of the game to improve to 5-7 overall.
Neosha Green scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets. Tashera Middleton had 11 points, Quanisha Brown had 10, Galeika Filmore had six and Nyeisha Filmore added four.
Andrews travels to Manning on Friday night.
Waccamaw
The Warriors' girls team beat Loris 55-43 on Thursday, Waccamaw's first won over a team other than Lincoln this season.
Waccamaw led 19-13 after the first quarter, but the Lions came back to cut the lead to 27-26 at halftime. Both teams scored 10 points in the third, but the Warriors held the Lions to just seven points in the fourth to secure their first region win of the season.
The difference in the game was at the free throw line, where Waccamaw went 14-for-26 and Loris went seven-for- 11.
Mary Tyler led the Warriors in scoring with 14. Jaynae Rice had 13, and Aaliyah Hudson and Imani Carr had 12 each.
Waccamaw (3-7) hosts Marion on Friday.
Georgetown
The Bulldogs' boys team remained winless in Region VIII-AAA, losing 69-68 to St. James on Friday night.
Georgetown led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but St. James rallied to take a 29-27 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs outscored the Sharks in the third and tied the score going into the fourth quarter, where the Sharks held on for the win.
Dae Quan Gibson led Georgetown with 15 points. Charlie McGirt and Tevin Johnson scored 11 each, Anthony Blair had nine, A.J. Walker had seven, Marquise Bessellieu had six and Justin Wright added four.
Georgetown (9-5) travels to North Myrtle Beach on Tuesday and Wilson on Friday.
After winning the first eight games of the season, Georgetown's girls' team lost its second straight region contest, a 58-44 loss to St. James on Friday night.
The Sharks dominated the first half and took a 28-13 lead into halftime. But the Bulldogs rallied, cutting the lead to 41-33 at the end of the third quarter. St. James then closed out the game with a 17-11 scoring advantage in the fourth.
Raven Smith led Georgetown with 19 points. Taziya Moody had 10 points and Jamia Porcher added four.
Georgetown (8-2) travels to Wilson on Friday.
