Georgetown’s wrestlers fell 40-25 to region rival Myrtle Beach on Jan. 9.

The Bulldogs lost the first two matches and fell behind 9-0, before Juwan Gibbs won by pin at 182 pounds.

After a double forfeit at 195, Jalil Smith won by pin at 220 to cut Myrtle Beach’s lead to 12-9.

The Seahawks won the next three matches to extend the lead to 27-12, but Andrew Daigle won by pin at 120.

Myrtle Beach won the next two matches to go ahead 36-18, and Georgetown needed pins in the final three matches to tie the score.

Dustin Pack at 138 and Jeremy Drayton at 152 won their matches on points and the Seahawks prevailed.

“Myrtle Beach came out tough,” Georgetown coach Sean Griffin said. “We wrestled well as a team. Most of our guys went the full six minutes.”

The Bulldogs were coming off a tough two-point loss to Timberland.

The Wolves benefitted from three Georgetown forfeits.

Drayton at 145 and Nick Cooper at 285 won by pin, and Pack at 138, Gibbs at 182, Smith at 220 and Deion Windley at 132 all won on points.

“It was a tough match,” Griffin said.

Georgetown benefitted from six forfeits in a 48-9 win over Military Magnet.

Drayton at 152 and Smith at 220 won by pin and Gibbs at 182 won on points.

Waccamaw

Hunter Brininger and John Van Slooten became the first Waccamaw wrestlers to win their division at the Hanahan Invitational earlier this month.

Brininger and Van Slooten pinned all of their opponents, the only two wrestlers in the tournament to do so.

Travis Pierce made the finals, Conner Summer and Arman Singh advanced to the semi-finals.
