Carvers Bay scored 18 points in the fourth quarter against Johnsonville last week but the comeback fell short in a 23-18 loss.

The Flashes scored all their points in the first half.

"We made too many mistakes and too many errors in the first half," said Bears coach Nate Thompson. "Our kids never quit. 23-0 at halftime it was easy to quit. They fought back and made a game of it and that was the big thing."

Trailing 23-0, Da'Shaun Aiken got the Bears on the board with a 1-run run. Aiken then threw touchdown passes to Hikeem Hampton (2 yards) and Desmond Sumpter (10 yards). Two-point conversion attempts failed on all three touchdowns. Aiken passed for 112 yards in the game.

Hampton was the leading receiver with 47 yards. Sumpter had 32, Daquan Wilson had 32, and Shayton Durrand had 14.

"We just couldn't hold onto the football," Thompson said. "If we could have held onto it, it could have been a different story."

Wilson and Shawn Lawrence led the Bears' defense with eight tackles each. Stefan Hannah and Davin Young had six tackles each. Wilson and Shaquan Durrand recovered fumbles, and Sumpter had an interception.

Carvers Bay (0-1) hosts St. John's on Friday night.
