Carvers Bay hosted Georgetown Friday, but the 22-0 score the Bears ran up over the Bulldogs wasn't especially welcoming.

Earlier in the week Carvers Bay coach Nate Thompson talked about having several guys out or injured. Four starters were out, but the injuries didn't stop the Bears from taking care of the Bulldogs.

Even so, Georgetown's offense was plagued by its own losses.

Senior quarterback Patrick Ward replaced starter Jamar Holley. Ward suffered a broken hand just a few days before last week's opening game against Mullins.

Ward was 8 for 25 passing with 57 yards.

Georgetown coach Bradley Adams figured the Bulldogs needed Ward's throwing ability, and it apparently helped. However, the Bears managed 67 yards passing.

Rushing was also tough for Georgetown, with just 30 net yards. Carvers Bay had 220 yards rushing.

When he accepted the job as the new head football coach in the spring, Adams said it would take time to reorient the team.

With the two starting quarterbacks injured just before the start of football season, and a new coach and new line-up, Adams said he's planning to stick with the offense but do things differently to fit the players who are on the team.

For his part, the Bears' Thompson is still worried about his four players who are out due to injuries.

Last Friday, Tevin Richard scored two touchdowns, on a one-yard and on a 53-yard run. Those were in the first and third quarters.

Martinas Hudson got a two-point safety for a tackle in the end zone in the second quarter.

And, in the fourth quarter, Quae'shawn Brockington scored a touchdown on a four-yard run.

Tyrone Brown made good on two PATs.

Both coaches credit their teams with putting forth good efforts.

Carvers Bay will host Waccamaw on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Georgetown hosts Andrews Friday at 7 p.m.
