Another grocery store chain is eyeing Pawleys Island to build a new store.
The Fresh Market, based in Greensboro, N.C., is planning to build a 24,851 square foot store near the intersection of Highway 17 and Parkersville Road.
The company’s website describes the stores as having “the atmosphere of an old world European market.”
The plans for the property will be presented to the Georgetown County Planning Commission Thursday evening. Along with the grocery store, there are also plans for another 6,720 square foot retail store and a 4,000 square foot bank to be built on the property.
The names of the retail store and bank have not been made public.

What happened to those radical "Don't Box the Neck" people? Be careful what you wish for you just might get it. I think it's great to have another food store to shop with.

They have already paved Paradise. What's left? Do you think we really need another bank in Pawleys? What we need is a family restaurant up here in Litchfield, not drive-throughs, not another food store, not another strip mall with empty stores and not more condos that sit empty. Oh, that's right. They are clearing the trees just south of Health Point. Another strip mall coming our way.
