Waccamaw runners finish in top three in state

Waccamaw High's girls lost a tiebreaker to finish second in Class AA at the state cross country meet on Saturday.

Landrum won the team title with 68 points and an average time of 20:45.98. Waccamaw had 68 points and an average of 20:40.21, and Bishop England had 71 and 20:46.96.

Lucie Kulze of Academic Magnet won the individual Class AA title with a time of 19:06.56. Grace Barnett of Waccamaw was second at 19:17.59, and Nevada Minard of Pelion was third at 19:38.14.

Amelia Jones of Waccamaw also finished in the top 10. She was seventh at 20:14.10.

Other competitors for the Warriors were: Rachel Thornton (20:46.46), Emily Heimberger (21:22.80), Jamie Barnett (21:40.14), Mary Butler Despain (21:42.84) and Sarah Cook (22:29.31).

Waccamaw's boys were third in Class AA.

Pendleton won the team title with 76 points and an average time of 17:21.42. Academic Magnet was second with 92 point and an average of 17:35.95, and Waccamaw was third with 93 and 17:27.67.

Christian Widenhouse of Bishop England won the individual Class AA title with a time of 16:25.65. Dylan Scott of Ninety Six was second at 16:36.32, and Robert Jones of Waccamaw was third at 16:37.87.

Jaz Greene of Waccamaw also finished in the top 10. He was seventh at 16:59.70.

Other competitors for the Warriors were: Blake Marsh (17:31.90), Zac Benton (17:57.59), Jackson Stacy (18:11.31), Grant Smith (18:12.44), and Kyle Wright (18:52.44).

Carvers Bay's girls team finished 10th in Class A at the state meet.

St. Josephs won the girls team title with 26 points and an average time of 20:11.61. Christ Church was second with 60 points and an average of 21:07.26 and Southside Christian was third with 63 and 21:19.79.

Carvers Bay had 263 points and an average time of 25:59.03.

Caroline Jennings of Christ Church won the individual Class A title at 18:55.09. Keyes Gilmer of St Josephs was second at 19:21.83, and Sara Catheri Masaschi of St. Josephs was third at 19:40.28.

Ijanai Haynes was the top finisher for Carvers Bay at 24:20.08.

Other competitors for the Bears were: Tierra Young (25:23.91), Madison Pope (25:31.78), Taleaa Adams (26:30.83), Haley Miller (28:08.58) and Andrea Seward (36:23.65).

St. Josephs also won the boys Class A team title with 51 points and an average time of 17:29.82. Christ Church was second with 67 points and an average of 17:30.15, and Greer Middle College Charter was third with 74 and 17:47.49.

Carvers Bay's boys were 12th with 321 points and 23:26.31.

James Quattlebaum of Christ Church won the individual Class A title at 15:50.15. Thomas Melanson of Governor's School was second at 16:25.15, and Ben Sessions of Greenville Tech Charter was third at 16:42.95.

Joseph Brown was the top finisher for Carvers Bay at 20:33.17.

Other competitors for the Bears were: Seth Legette (21:33.67), Damassio Timmons (21:54.95), Shon Rice (26:33.81), Nathan Owens (26:35.97), and Rayshaud Dorsey (30:47.01).

Mary Cooper Jordan and Brandon Cribb were the only competitors in Class AAA for Georgetown.

Megan Stahlberger of Airport (18:05.53) and Andre Ivankovic of Daniel (15:24.01) won individual titles.

Jordan was 35th with a time of 20:30.91, and Cribb was 50th at 17:46.49.
