Jalen Simmons scored on a 60-yard touchdown run on Waccamaw's second possession last week, and the Warriors held on for the 7-0 win over Green Sea-Floyds.

"Our kids played well in spurts but we still have a long way to go," said Waccamaw coach Tyronne Davis. "When the game was on the line and we had to stiffen on the defensive side of the ball our defense played well."

The Warriors got down to the Trojans' 10-yard-line and 20-yard-line on two possessions near the end of the first half, but a fumble and a penalty killed those drives.

"When you've got an opportunity to score and put teams away you've got to take advantage of it," Davis said.

Green Sea-Floyd took over on Waccamaw's 29-yard-line with about 5 minutes left in the game, but a sack on fourth down by Simmons and Harley Temlin preserved the victory.

Simmons led Waccamaw's offense with 139 rushing yards. Jeffron Smalls had 124 yards.

It was a nice turnaround for the Warriors, who gave up 28 points on special teams and were beaten 50-14 by North Myrtle Beach in the first game of the season.

"You just can't make those mistakes against a quality football team,"Davis said. "We've got a young team and they've got to understand that some mistakes are unforgivable."

Waccamaw (1-1) travels to Creek Bridge on Friday night.

The Warriors of Creek Bridge lost 36-6 to Aynor last week.
