Even in the midst of the cold and rain, Imani Atkins was able to shine and be crowned as Lambda Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Miss Blue Revue, on Saturday, January 30, 2010.
As the winner, Imani received a $500 certificate of deposit, along with her trophy.
The first runner-up, Shantel Young, and second runner-up, Connor Graham, received certificates of deposit for $300 and $200 respectively.
Imani is the daughter of Donna Britton of Georgetown, SC and is an eighth grader at Waccamaw Middle School.
She dazzled the crowd and the judges with her poise and grace that she exemplified during the public speaking, talent and evening wear competition.
For her talent she did a creative dance.
First and second runner-up, Shantel Young an eighth grader and Connor Graham a seventh grader at Waccamaw Middle School, were close competitors in the event.
Each of the young ladies recited poetry as their talent.
In addition to the competition that took place on that evening, contestants were able to gain bonus points toward their grand total by participating in community service activities, fundraising, or being chosen the “people’s choice” during the talent category.
Lambda Omicron Zeta, wanted to make sure that Miss Blue Revue was well rounded and that the pageant was not only about fundraising or being just “another pretty face.”
The chapter wanted the young ladies to gain something from the experience, which is why the contestants were able to attend a budgeting workshop conducted by County Treasurer Loretta Washington-Cooper and a self-esteem/pageantry workshop conducted by Vivian Coley-Johnson.
Nine other young ladies participated in the Blue Revue: Katlyn Chandler, Christia Ferguson, D’etta Greene, Jada Jiles, Clara Johnson, Kamaria Nettles, LeAnn Thompson, Ah’lanea Vanderhost and Sirena Washington.
During the evening, the audience was entertained by Carvers Bay High School’s Jazz Band, Georgetown High School’s Gospel Choir, and the Love Chapel Deliverance Center Praise Dancers—Vision Praise.
It was a night to remember for all who were in attendance.
