Sheriff Lane Cribb is hoping to raise $50,000 to help the day to day operations of the Family Justice Center in Georgetown.
He is hoping 500 men will “step up to the plate” and donate $100 each and make a pledge to do so on an annual basis.
Cribb announced the new “G-Men” (Georgetown Men) initiative Wednesday inside the conference room of the Highmarket Street facility.
The big push for the contributions will take place May 19 at a barbecue lunch that will take place at the Sheriff’s Office from noon until 2 p.m.
The Family Justice Center works to help individuals who are in abusive relationships.
“According to the statistics, 85 percent of all aggressors are men,” Cribb said. “It’s time for men to step up to the plate. I want to get 500 men to support this with a $100 donation.”
The annual budget for the Family Justice Center is about $211,000.
