Primary turnout low in Georgetown County

Article Content:

Voter turnout has been low all across Georgetown County for today’s party primaries.
With only three contested races on the ballot — and only two in some precincts — and scattered heavy showers throughout the day, most voters have stayed away from the polls so far.
As of 1 p.m., only 6.2% of the registered voters in the Spring Gully precinct had vast a ballot.
By 1:40 p.m., 13% had voted at Kensington Elementary School and only 11.4% in the Black River precinct by 1:50 p.m.
Turnout has also been low on the Waccamaw Neck.
Outside most polling places, some of the candidates who were disqualified from running by the South Carolina Supreme Court are collecting signatures so they can be on the ballot in November as a petition candidate.
