The following reports were collected from local law enforcement offices:
Toddlers in the street
Deputies received several calls Saturday morning about two very young barely clothed children walking alone on Highway 701.
When deputies arrived, one of the callers had the children in his van trying to warm them up.
He said the children — ages 2 and 4 — did not know where they lived or their mother’s name.
When asked by a deputy, the 4-year-old girl was able to give her first name and the name of her brother but did not know their last names.
Because the children were cold and had several bandages on them, they were taken into emergency custody and were transported to the hospital.
While the children were at the hospital, their mother was located.
She said the three of them fell asleep and while she was still sleeping, the children woke up and walked out of the house.
The children were checked by a doctor who said there was no evidence of any abuse.
Since the deputies did not feel the woman was a threat to the children, they were released back to her custody.
Man robbed
A 23-year-old Georgetown man said he was robbed as he drove on Winyah Street at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The man said he saw a man he went to school with, so he stopped and got out of his vehicle to talk with him.
During the conversation, the victim mentioned he just got paid.
That’s when the suspect pushed the victim and grabbed $650 from his pocket.
The victim said he was uninjured.
Fight in gym
Police were sent to the gym of Georgetown High School because of a fight taking place during a basketball tournament Nov. 21.
Once reaching the top of the bleachers, the officers broke up the fight between two juveniles.
The two were taken outside and questioned. They said they had bumped into each other while in a concession stand line earlier.
That led to words being exchanged when they returned to the bleachers which caused the fight.
They were both charged with disturbing schools.
Stuck by needle
A man who works for a private refuse company said he picked up a bag of trash in front of a home on Wedgefield Road Nov. 16 and was stuck on the thumb by a syringe needle.
He was transported to his doctor.
It is unknown if the syringe was used for illegal narcotic use.
Illegal dumping
Deputies were called after a man was seen emptying a trailer full of roofing debris beside CCC Road, near the Georgetown Marine Institute Nov. 15.
When the dumper saw he was being watched, he jumped in his truck and sped away.
Shots fired
Officers were rushed to Club Isis in Pawleys Island about 2:15 a.m. Nov. 21 after receiving word of shots fired.
Deputies talked to a guard who said he heard five shots. Five shell casings were retrieved from the parking lot.
No one on the scene could give any information about the person who fired the shots. No one was injured.
A vehicle matching the description of the one given by witnesses was pulled over by police in Georgetown but no gun was found.
Drag racing
While on patrol Nov. 21, a deputy heard the sounds of engines revving at the intersection of Highway 17 and Blackgum Drive.
He then saw a white Honda and a black Ford Mustang heading south at a high rate of speed.
The deputies began a pursuit of the vehicles and saw them as the Honda driver pulled into a gas station while the Mustang driver pulled into a median.
The Honda driver, a 19-year-old Goose Creek man, did not have a driver’s license so he was arrested.
Both drivers were ticketed for driving 80 mph.
Stolen chops
Workers at the Pawleys Island Food Lion said they saw a man stuffing pork chops into his jacket Nov. 21.
One of the workers chased the man outside but he jumped on a bike and peddled away.
Possible child abuse
A Folly Grove community woman who had temporary custody of her two grandchildren while their mother was in jail told deputies their mother had been picking them up for visitation after she was released.
She said the children — ages 3 and 5 — started kicking and screaming when their mother arrived to pick them up.
She also said they act different when they return from the visits.
The woman said she thinks her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend have been abusing the children.
She said the children have nightmares and, at times, were heard screaming “stop stop.”
The matter has been turned over to DSS.
