One day after the home he shares with his mother in Pleasant Hill was destroyed by fire, a man caught someone stealing from the charred remains.
The fire occurred at a home on Ports Hill Drive Jan. 4. The next day, the 29-year-old resident drove to the home and saw a 43-year-old man walking from behind the remains of the house with a copper pipe in his hand.
When the suspect saw the victim, he put the pipe down. When he was asked what he was doing, the older man said “nothing.”
The resident looked in the back of the man’s truck and saw copper wire and piping.
He then asked the man if he was stealing from the house and the suspect said he was and then said he did not take everything.
The victim removed the copper from the back of the truck and told the man to leave, which he did.
The deputy noted some of the copper the man tried to take had to be cut from the house.
The home owner spoke to a deputy by phone and she said she does want to prosecute.
Marijuana charge
A police officer clocked a speeding vehicle on Fraser Street near Five Points New Year’s even and initiated a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver — a 17-year-old Georgetown man — the officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and the man’s eyes “were glassed over.”
When the officer asked if there was anything in the vehicle he should know about, the driver said “no” and permission was given to search the truck.
During a patdown, police found a knife and small bag of marijuana in the man’s pocket, so he was taken to jail.
Church van vandalized
Someone vandalized a van belonging to New Hope UME Church on Goldfinch Road Wednesday.
The man who filed the report said someone slashed both back tires and one front tire of the vehicle while it was parked at the church.
There are no suspects.
Caledonia copper theft
Deputies met with the owner of Caledonia Two Jan. 4 because of a breakin.
The man said copper wiring and piping had been stripped from the building.
The copper was taken from several air conditioning units.
It appeared entry was made by cutting a fence and then several doors were pried open.
A worker said she saw a suspicious truck in front of the business a few days before the theft. She later saw the same vehicle passing very slowly.
A person who lives in the area said she saw people loading metal objects from the business in a truck a couple days earlier.
Stolen pups
A man from Chavis Landing Road said stole three pit bull puppies from his home Jan. 4.
He said the puppies were nine weeks old and worth $250 each.
The man said the pups were in a locked cage so someone either cut or picked the lock.
Liquor bottle attack
Charges may be filed against a 20-year-old man accused of damaging a mobile home Jan. 5.
The man allegedly threw a liquor bottle at the home on Pawnee Drive, causing a small dent.
The homeowner said the bottle-thrower and the woman who lives at the damaged home have been having problems for a while.
Damage is estimated at about $100.

"Liquor Bottle Attack" : 1/11/2010
There needs to be a correction to the police blotter "Liquor Bottle Attack." It was a 20 year old female that threw the bottle against the home. The woman does not live at the home in question.
